strung (-guri), s.n. – Maşină-unealtă care îndeplineşte diferite operaţii de aşchiere. – var. Mold., Trans., strug, şi der. Mr. strug. sl. strugŭ (Miklosich, Slaw. Elem., 46; Tiktin; Conev 66), de la strugati "a răzui", var. a lui stružiti, cf. struji, şi bg., cr., slov., rus. strug. Nazala nu a fost explicată; ar putea fi o influenţă din gr., cf. ngr. στρουγγύλος "rotund", cu atît mai mult cu cît γγ sau γϰ în loc de γ, ϰ este destul de frecventă în ngr. – Der. strungar, s.m. (strujitor), cf. bg. strugarĭ, sb. strugar; strungări, vb. (a strunji); strungărie, s.f. (strung, atelierul strungarului).
