ULM, ulmi, s.m. Nume dat mai multor specii de arbori şi de arbuşti cu scoarţa în general netedă, cu coroana stufoasă, cu frunze alterne şi asimetrice zimţate pe margini, albicioase şi cu peri moi pe dos, al căror lemn tare este folosit în rotărie (Ulmus). ♢ Ulm de câmp = arbore înalt, cu scoarţă groasă, negricioasă, cu lemn rezistent, greu şi elastic, folosit în industria casnică (Ulmus carpinifolia). Ulm de munte = arbore înalt, cu scoarţă subţire, cultivat ca arbore ornamental (Ulmus scabra). – lat. ulmus.
