HOLOCÁUST, holocáusturi, 1. Jertfire rituală prin ardere. 2. Distrugere completă soldată cu victime în număr mare, îndeosebi prin ardere. ♢ Holocaust nuclear. 3. (Scris deseori cu majusculă) Asasinarea în masă a populaţiei civile din Europa, în special a evreilor, de către nazişti, în timpul celui de-al doilea război mondial. ♦ Asasinare în masă a populaţiei; genocid.
