páos, páosuri, s.n. (înv. şi reg.) 1. repaos, odihnă; linişte, calm. 2. (fig.) decădere, declin. 3. pomană; ceea ce se dă de pomană; jertfă din vin adusă morţilor. 4. vin sfinţit, untdelemn sau agheasmă cu care preotul stropeşte mortul, înainte de a-l îngropa. 5. lumânare specială pentru mort, din ceară curată, de lungimea mortului, care arde tot timpul cât acesta stă în casă. 6. cuvântare la o înmormântare.

páos s.m. – Obicei funerar, vin amestecat cu apă şi miere, care se duce la înmormîntare împreună cu un colac şi o lumînare; cu vinul se stropeşte mortul; colacul şi lumînarea se dau de pomană. – var. (a)paus, apaous. Mr. pafsă "sfîrşit". Probabil lat. *pausum din pausāre, ca repaus (Tiktin; Candrea), cf. gr. παύσης. E dubletul lui pauză, s.f. (odihnă), din fr. pause.
